2012 cosplay review and cosplay/blog new year's resolutions

I failed miserably at keeping track of this blog after I came back from Barcelona. It's been a mixture of being completely lazy and busy, even though I attended another comic con after that trip.

This time of the year is always a time for stopping and making a review of everything, and thinking about the things you did and didn't do, and since cosplaying is my biggest hobby, I did think a lot about it the last month.

That's why I wanted to wrap the year with an entry, maybe as a tangible year resolution and a promise to myself that I do need to keep updated this thing more regularly. And maybe as a thing to look at, my cosplays all together as sign of things I was able to create and do, an encouragement to keep doing this.

This year was the year of many dream cosplays! Like finally cosplaying Rosiel from Angel Sanctuary and the Macabre tour outfit from Toshiya.
This year I did cosplay alone and I cosplayed with friends, and both of them had been fullfilling and wonderful experiences. I tried new cosplays and some were personal challenges, I did improved my skills and learned from them and now, in the end of the year 2012 I can say it has been a great cosplay year for me but that the best of me it's yet to come, so from now on, please take care of me~

Cosplay / Blog New Year resolutions

  • Cosplay more, with or without events, conventions or other meetings. Cosplay just because of the sake of cosplaying.
  • More girls, lots of girls! I want 2013 to be the year of me cosplaying girls.
  • Learn more about wigs. How to style them properly, cut them, dye them, etc. It's my biggest lack of skills when it comes to cosplay.
  • Try more things, don't be scared of challenges.
  • Be more social in Cosplay events, aka, finding more Cosplayer friends.

  • Do something with this blog to make it more eye catching and more appealing
  • Be more internet social. Comment more on blogs, deviantart, and any other social network.
  • Force myself to post at least once per two months with cosplay related things.

  • Never, ever, stop having fun. Because that's all cosplay is about.

The year is about to end here, so I wish 2013 the best for all of you. A year full of happiness, health, love and anything you desire!

(。´⌒`)ノ明けましておめでとうございますヾ(´⌒`。)

Year of Cosplay 2012

For the last day of the year I figured I could do some kind of special blog post ~

First of a list of all the cons I've been to this year:

Desucon Frostbite - Lahti, Finland
Kitacon - Kemi, Finland

Chibicon - Oulu, Finland
Desucon - Lahti, Finland
Uppcon - Uppsala, Sweden

Animecon - Kuopio, Finland
Närcon - Linköping, Sweden

Oulun Animeseminaari - Oulu, Finland
Tracon - Tampere, Finland
Kemin Mangapäivä (6th October) - Kemi, Finland

Skecon - Skellefteå, Sweden

A lot of cons this year, hahah. Mainly in Finland too. It's very hard to pick my favorite con for the year but if I do a top 3 it would probably look like this:

1. Närcon
2. Tracon
3. Uppcon

• Närcon first because it's.. well, awesome. It has so many activities no other cons offer and is like a huge 4 days con festival! The atmosphere is great, the locations are nice (although I get lost many times because of the maze-like corridors lol xD), great outside area, juice bar, laserdome/bouncy castle/whatever special attraction of the year, swimming pool etc. Närcon is shortly said a blast all congoers should visit at least once! Also the weather was great this year and didn't ruin my con weekend, hence the first place.
• Tracon is second because I'm in love with Tampere-talo as a location for hosting a con. It is very nice and feels luxury somehow haha. Also the park around Sorsalampi is amazing.. too bad I only noticed it at the very last minutes before I had to depart. Amazing photoshoot opportunities in nature. Oh, and Tracon is just overall very enjoyable and certainly my favorite con in Finland currently, mainly for its more than awesome locations.
• Uppcon was a blast too. Too bad this year was the last Uppcon in history and the rainy weather kinda ruined it on the later days, otherwise Uppcon wouldn't be third place for me. But the location is amazing and big, there is lots of stuff to do and I don't even need to mention the huge merchandise tent which is like a geek's treasure trove haha. Uppcon was the biggest (and most well-known I presume) con in Sweden and it's a shame it is no more.. but it seems there will be a successor.

And lastly here is all the cosplays of different characters I've worn this year. Ukitake is the only one of these which has already been worn 2011, the rest are 2012 debut cosplays. I only put a character once even though in some cases I did different variations of the same character.. like formalsuit!Ukitake, artbook!Saitou (Hakuouki) etc.

Upper row, left to right: Jushiro Ukitake (Bleach), Gin Ichimaru (Bleach), Byakuya Kuchiki (Bleach), Ichito (Asaki, Yumemishi), Souji Okita (Hakuouki), Toshizo Hijikata (Hakuouki)
Lower row, left to right: Hajime Saitou (Hakuouki), Masamune Date (Sengoku Basara), Isami Kondou (Hakuouki), Sojun Kuchiki (Bleach), Hajime Saitou (Bakumatsu Renka Shinsengumi), Falkner (Pokémon)

My favorite cosplay of the year.. hmm.. very hard to just pick one because I love them all. xD But if I think about the overall con experience with said cosplay, how comfortable it was to wear, overall enjoyment and liking of the character etc I guess it's a tie between two Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan chars - Hajime Saitou and Isami Kondou. Saitou is a cosplay that fits me like a glove in the hand, my anime alter-ego and just everything about his design and personality is very much to my liking. Very comfortable to wear too except the scarf that's always planning to suffocate me lol. Isami Kondou was also very much fun to cosplay, especially during Tracon's Hakuouki group! Also very comfortable and fun and that wig is just too awesome not to like!

Happy New Year 2013 and Happy Cosplaying! ~

MangaZ: a downloader and manga reader app for Windows 8

It is available right now on Windows Store.

I'm not really fond of Windows 8, but this app seems practical. I can see how in the future manga aggregators and scanlators can release apps.

MangaZ is the first Manga reader and downloader for the Windows 8 operating system and as such worth a review. When you start the application after installation you are presented with a list of the top 500 manga series on the left and a search above that.

If you are a fan of a particular series, you can enter it in the search to filter the results and find it quickly which is the fastest way to find a series unless it is listed in the top 10.

Once you have selected a Manga from the list information about it are displayed on the right. Here you see a larger cover, when it was released, the author and its genre. There is also a description below that, options to favorite a series, and to download it as a whole.

When you click on the download series button you are however informed that this option is only available if you purchase the full version. Free users are left with individual episode downloads, and while that is less convenient than download a full series at once, it still works considerable well.

South Koreans enraged by doujinshi that depicts rapper PSY as a rapist

Psy

ok.... o.o

Nobody exactly knows why Psy's Gangham Style hasn't been that well received in Japanese charts, despite becoming n° 1 in views in Japan's Youtube. It is attributed to the fact that Psy never released a Japanese version of the song, a practice common among K-Pop stars to make it big in Japan.

From The Japan Daily Press:
"an unofficial manga made by a fan group, still to be released on December 31 shows a man bearing a striking similarity to PSY leading a Korean gang who kidnaps and then rapes a group of Japanese girls. PSY, with his “Gangnam Style”, transcended Internet and YouTube stardom to become one of the most popular stars of this year, and naturally his fellow Koreans are proud and protective of their fellow countryman and his image. Toss in an ongoing island dispute as well as some World War II wounds and you have an ugly mess in the making."

Deadman Wonderland manga will return from hiatus in January 26

Deadman Wonderland manga will return from hiatus in January 26

The principal characters of Deadman Wonderland...

Kadokawa Shoten announced this week that the team of authors Jinsei Kataoka and Kazuma Kondou will resume the manga Deadman Wonderland, starting on January 26, in Monthly Shonen Ace magazine.

The announcement also revealed that the newest chapter will begin the manga's final arc, the final carnival.

The series began on Monthly Shonen Ace Magazine in 2006, it took a break in April 2012 after Kataoka announced her pregnancy.

Worst anime series of 2012

It's not that these series were dissapointments, it's that their premises and execution failed.

Zetman

A series that had incredible potential was Zetman. But the pacing and quality of the episodes wasn't consistent, maybe a stylization of the art would have worked better instead of going for a too realistic look. I recommend 110% reading the manga.

My mind still can't process what Inferno Cop was about, exactly. It seemed like the director of Gurren Lagan, and the producers of Psycho Pass and Gintama conspired to troll away their audiences for the fun of it.

I still don't know why did they decide to reveal everything about the plot and characters in La Storia della Arcana Famiglia in the very first episodes. This could have been a great series if the plot was solid and showcased the characters little by little, but this show felt like advertising for the video game and what each character can do.

Japanese cover of Sket Dance volume 1

And I can't still believe that such a promising and full of vitality series like Sket Dance became the most forgettable anime of this year in its last season. The introduction of the tsundere big boobs character and giving her too much screen time was fatal. The whole snow trip vacation arc was terrible, it made me feel as if I was watching reruns of Dawson's Creek o.o
